8 best practices of top performing sustainable companies and fleets

By Verizon Connect Team July 19, 2022

Sustainability has become an essential pillar of a company's reputation as well as competitiveness. Sustainable companies and their vehicle fleets have a culture in which their activities, operations and impact revolve around a "green commitment" that prioritises the reduction of fuel consumption, the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and efficiency in all their operations.

Both the public and government agencies are demanding companies to expand their commitment to sustainability. According to a recent survey, four in five Australians (79%) agree that climate change is happening. This is the highest percentage ever recorded in the last ten years.

However, the number of Australians concerned about climate change (74%) has stayed the same since 2019. This result was derived during the Covid-19 pandemic and remains high despite other topics becoming high priority such as public health and the economic impacts of the crisis.

Fleet sustainability is a new model for many companies that are focused on reducing the environmental, economic, and social impact of their fleet operations. This helps them to be more competitive and enables them to focus more on their customer’s needs.

Here are some ways you can make your fleet more sustainable:

  • Use advanced fleet management solutions: Take control of your daily business and help boost efficiency in all your operations
  • Address vehicle carbon footprint: Measure each vehicle’s carbon footprint, enabling you to monitor and lower the emissions generated by your overall fleet
  • Reduce fuel consumption: According to the Fleet Technology Trends Survey 2022, companies that adopted GPS saw improvements, such as 52% of respondents reduced fuel consumption
  • Top-notch routing: Well-planned driver routes can help reduce mileage, fuel use, and driving hours, and can help reduce unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle
  • Right size vehicle and fleet size: A GPS Tracking solution can help give a better overview of your real needs, operations, and daily activity
  • Introduce new alternative fuels: EVs’ are at an early stage but there are more companies that are introducing electric vehicles in their fleets to become sustainable companies

Midsize and large businesses are therefore prioritising their fleet’s sustainability in order to not only be greener, but also more aligned to customers’ expectations in tackling climate change together, and by being part of the solution by adopting best practices wherever they can with the help of a fleet management solution.
