What is RODs or Daily Logs?

HomeGlossary of fleet termsWhat is RODs or Daily Logs?

RODs stands for Record of Duty Status, and is required as part of the US Hours of Service rules. Canadian Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers operating cross-border may be required to maintain RODs for the period that they are driving within the United States.

Documentation of driving times in Canada, as required by Canadian Hours of Service rules, are often called daily logs. Daily logs should include information such as the driver’s name, the date, start and finish times and vehicle registration number.

The Canadian ELD mandate will encourage a transition from paper daily logs to electronic logs, using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs). ELDs can maintain daily logs automatically based on the GPS location and movement of the truck.
